My mother had total knee replacement at this hospital in Aug/2013. We knew of the challenges of this surgery and that there could be complications because of her age (78), and aillments, but never in our mind consider that it would happen to us. Today, I have nothing but great things to say about this hospital and staff. Due to lots of blood lost during and after the surgery (hemoglobin down to 6.2), and refusal of blood transfussion, her hospital stayed was 14 days. Nursing staff and doctors, as well as the physical therapy team were beyond excellent. Doctors (orthopedic surgeon, hemotology, cardiac, pulmonary and internist) worked to get my mother out of the hospital and ready for outpatient rehabilitation with the upmost care. They were sensibled to her needs and willing to cooperate with her believes and refusal of blood transfussion. They were knowledgeable of alternative blood treatments for patients like her. The staff at the orthopedic floor was wonderful to say the least. ICU nurses were very understanding of her needs, and also they were very supportive of our family. Always a smile. They informed us of every medication she was being given. They listen to our concerns, and relay messages and questions to doctors. I stayed with her all 14 days in the hospital, and I felt their support emotionally. They provided a recliner so I could spend the nights with her, and a patient food tray for all 3 meals, so I would not have to leave the hospital. The physical therapy team was great, too. My family and I are extremely satisfied and happy with the care my mother received while in the hospital. The hospital cleaning staff was also very attentive, and did their job well. Thank you, Westside Regional.
